Mingo Falls & Other ramblings...

Sitting here listening to my Patsy Cline station on Pandora.com... Sweet!
Mothers Day weekend my Mom came up to visit me. We did a little bit of hiking while she was here. Our first stop was Mingo Falls on the Cherokee Indian Reservation in Cherokee, NC. Mingo Falls has to be one of the most beautiful water falls that I have ever visited. We had to climb some stairs and then it was a short path uphill to the Falls. If you are ever in the area I highly recommend stopping to visit this beautiful spot. It rained the day before we went up to the falls so the trail was a muddy mess. However I do think this helped with the amount of water coming off of the falls that day.

Speaking of snakes... This past Saturday I was walking on a trail with my dog Smokey see picture below. :-) We were walking on a trail that ran along a beaver pond. All of the sudden I spotted a cottonmouth snake laying curled up in the middle of the trail. Well I think it spotted Smokey and all of the sudden lunged towards us. I was still a good distance away from the snake thank goodness. I grabbed Smokey up off the ground by his leash and started running in the opposite direction. Poor Smokey was dangling by his harness on the leash while I was running down the trail. He was swinging from side to side in the wind wondering what in the world I was doing to him. hehe I have to toughen up. I am sure that is the first of many large snakes I will see while hiking.

As far as exercising goes I went to walk/jog earlier this evening. I took Smokey with me on the Greenway. Every child we passed wanted to pet him so it slowed me down. Oh, I also did Fat Burning Pilates tonight. Woohoo!

    That picture of Smokey has got to be one of my favorites. I really enjoyed spending Mother's Day weekend with you. I am so glad I made the climb up to Mingo Falls. It was so worth it. I can't wait to hike another falls. I laugh every time I think I poor Smokey flying through the air as you are running away from that snake. I think you are right about snakes. You are going to encounter a lot of them as you continue to hike and especially on the AT.
    Keep up the good work with your exercise program. I keep saying, you will be my inspiration.

    Great Pictures...
    I think that story about you and Smokey running away...well, you running away and Smokey just hanging by his leash LOL will keep me laughing for a while.
    So are Cottonmouth snakes dangerous?
    You'll have to let me know about the Pilates, I've never tried it.
    Anyways, great blog.

    Thanks Mom & Fi... Fiona yes, cottonmouths are dangerous. They are pit vipers. They live in and around water. Scary! ... :-)
