FDR State Park - Day Hike

Back in May I went to visit my Mom for a few days. While I was back "home" my Mom and I planned to do two hikes. First we planned to hike at Providence Canyon State Park and then FDR State Park. We decided to scrap our Providence Canyon hike because it had been raining, raining, raining the day before and morning of our hike. Providence Canyone is muddy when it rains as it is all Gerogia red clay. Since we were not equipped to hike in mud and rain we decided to go to FDR State Park instead.

Franklin Delanor Roosevelt State Park in Georgia is near the towns of Pine Mountain and Warm Springs. They have a good number of hiking trails one of which is the Pine Mountain Trail. The Pine Mountain Trail is a total of 23 miles. Out of our league at this point in time. :-) However we did do some of the Dwodell's Knob Trail but saddly did not actually finish the trail because somehow we both forgot to put water in the backpack when we left the car. Not a very good idea to hike in GA when it is hot without water right?? :-) Anyway, we had a picnic planned after our hike so we did a short hike down the side of the mountain and then back up.

After our hike we grilled some hotdogs and ate some chips. Yum! Getting the coals on the grill hot and staying that way in the blowing wind and at points rain was a challenge. Yay, for my Mom who grew up camping and grilling. :-) Overall the FDR State Park was a fun day and a good day hike. I highly suggest visiting if you are in the area.

Want to see photos from the FDR Dwodell's Knob hike? You can find them here. Hint you will need a password to view the album. The password is smokeymntdreams.

Ok, so I actually started this blog post a few weeks ago and planned to post it back in July. However my Mom was in a car accident and everything I had planned for that weekend got thrown out the window. All I could think about was my Mom and making sure she was ok. Thankfully she only had cuts and bruises and is ok. Her car is a total loss though. I am now finished with my accounting class. I pulled out an A. :-) Now I am at my Mom's house visiting for a few days.

I start back to school full time on the 17th. I am finally entering the home stretch. My last year at the University of Georgia. If everything goes as planned I will graduate in May. WooHoo!

Next blog I hope to post about my longest hike to date. Raven Cliff Falls. I drove up and did the hike by myself and I am very proud of that. It was the best hike I have been on to date so pictures and details to come soon.
